So I finally finished a video that shows parts of the Ohio & Massachusetts segments of the trip. I hope you enjoy it. It’s a bit long for internet content, but it could easily have been 20 minutes.
I was talking with my Dad the other day, and after reviewing the blog, he suggested I extend the process before attempting to complete the feature. That the 40 day limitation was a hinderance. I could get a lot of great information if I took a break, earned more money, planned further, and went out to shoot more every couple of months for the next year. He also said this was the best thing I had written since a short SF mystery I wrote in high school. With my new “accept all suggestions” strategy, for the first time I actually decided to entertain my Father’s advice instead of rejecting it immediately. After considering, I balanced one of my most intense desires for this project (to get into Sundance 2009 to avoid anyone beating me to the proverbial fisticuffs) and the reality of my situation I long denied (I lacked the resources to produce this feature, even on the minimal scale to which I chose to resort). So I came up with this compromise. I will edit the first section of the trip into a short to submit to Sundance. Then I will continue with planning, save up more money, gather financing, and plan to do the process the right way in the next couple months. One of the things I like about this concept is that it does make the process much more “On the Road.”
What do you think of this plan, loyal readers? Leave me some comments or drop me an email.
L&P,
Mark Maccora

Mr. Maccora,
I dig what you’re throwing down. More please.
Comment by Tanaka July 23, 2008 @ 9:16 pmI love this segment! don’t stop! there is a spiritual revolution going on…www.sgi-usa.org…i chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo with the SGI…our main focus is creating world peace with an inclusive attitude embracing and talking with people of all races and religions…we don’t need to be the same religion to live in peace…
oh and as far as the process…your life will take you on a journey…don’t begrudge it just cuz it’s not always sticking to your plan…as long as we are clear with our prayer every action will move us closer to it’s fruition…
i have a plus size music/fashion brand and it hasn’t gone according to plan for one minute and the only time wasted was trying to force things instead of letting them unfold.
love

Fascinating stuff, man. Editing is very cool. It’s looks, however, like some of these people have nothing really to say, and feel compelled to say something by virtue of the camera in front of them (I’m referring mostly to the drunk girls). I’d love to see more of the wiser folks who’ve thought this out a bit.
Comment by blairk July 23, 2008 @ 10:14 pmNati: I actually live down the street from SGI in LA. I’ve done the chant, and I know a lot of people it has really assisted. It’s all about finding the best path for you through the mire of modern existence. I’m a Taoist at heart, and I’m getting much better at flowing with what the Universe offers. It supports me directly when I do.
Blair: I disagree and agree. Questioning how we spend our free time and excess wealth in a society as privileged as ours, especially after volunteering within the abject poverty of Malawi, is the kind of self-reflection that I consider wise. A statement as judgmental and presumptuous as people are not spiritual even if they think they are is not wise, but for me it inspires anger and self-inspection. I’m not above pissing people off to get a reaction.
Everyone: Thank you for your compliments and support.

The music education site I’m still building with Jayo will be entering a field of many competitors… I used to think we had to get up sooner so we could beat anyone else working on a similar idea. But we weren’t the first and won’t be the last, so…
fuck it!
P.S. It’s lookin’ mad dope…
